PAINTING POL POT, 2001
Van Nath, the only remaining survivor of the torture central, commonly known as "The Killing Fields", tells his "a thousand and one night"-like story about being ordered to paint the portraits of Pol Pot. With death hanging over him, he executed numerous paintings in a closed cell and thereby survived up until the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia in 1979, four years after Pol Pot had managed to execute and starve to death more than a third of Cambodia's 7 million citizens. HASHIMA, LOST ISLAND, 2002-03
The world's most densely populated civilization in history, and a full society of 5000 people living on and island 140 meters wide and 400 meters long existed for nearly 80 years until Mitsubishi suddenly closed the coal mining down. In the crazy ruins of a 20th century madness, walks one of the men who grew up, and was forced to leave in 1970. He tells his story among the almost untouched buildings, where remnants of daily life remains as symbols for a sociey much like our own.
